12-16 Feels Like Tonight

Hi. Hope all of you are doing well and are enjoying your break. I have a basketball tournament this weekend that I am extremely excited for(as Dwight Schrute would say lol). I am playing with a few really good local players and I think we have a great shot to win.

Little random story for you, as sad as it is...

I live in the country so there are some hick racist people around from time to time. So today I went to get my haircut on Main st. today and saw a 35 y/o guy with his baby son exiting a pickup. Th pickup was bright green and had confederate bumper stickers all over it. I looked at The dad's shirt which read "Slavery gets **** done." I mean really people? You are walking around in public with that shirt on in 2008!! I was simply speechless.

As for the music, tracks 2 and 3 are my sister, Annemarie's picks. Tracks 1 and 4 are mine.
Im gonna ask her for some insight the next few weeks over break....

Hope you like our combined musical tastes.....

1. Chasen - Drown
http://www.last.fm/music/CHASEN/_/Drown
Amazing song about Charleston, SC

2. Embrace - Gravity
http://search.playlist.com/tracks/embrace%20-%20gravity
British band which reminds me a lot of coldplay. Check em out.

3. Matt Nathanson - Weight of it all
http://search.playlist.com/tracks/matt%20nathanson%20-%20weight%20of%20it%20all%20
Powerful song about tough times in our lives.

4. Daughtry - Feels like tonight
http://search.playlist.com/tracks/daughtry%20-%20feels%20like%20tonight

This is a very powerful song about mistakes and trying to make them right...

Hope you enjoy.

12-9 Swing Life Away

Hey there. Im sitting on my couch in my lving room at about 1 am thinking about life, happiness, meaning and of course....music. I am 21 years old, with no plan for whats next to come. Since I can remember, we have always been pushed and encouraged to be in school, it has always been whats coming next fall. Oh wait not anymore. Get a job? Go back to Grad school? Take another adventure? haha who knows..... We all want the same thing---to be loved, to be wanted, to be utilized, to find our purpose. We all travel different paths but ultimately very similar things make us happy. True love, family, God's infinite mercy and glory, security, inspiration, passion, contentment, purpose, fulfillment.
These are the most important elements to life as we grow older, make our way and leave our legacy.

"Swing Life Away"
-Rise Against

As for music, this is what I have been listening to :

1. Beyonce - If I were a Boy Remix with R. Kelly

11-25 - Let it Shine

Hi there, music listeners. I am back home in the South and enjoyed a nice hike to the river with my sister yesterday from which these pictures come. I also watched the Jets slaughter the then undefeated Titans yesterday which was quite amazing. I have pretty much been listening to two songs(1 and 2) this week so I am gonna stress that NO MATTER WHAT, you listen to them attentively haha. They are so ridiculously good......
1. Plain White T's - Shine
"You say youre looking for happiness, but when it comes you run away from it.
You tell yourself you dont deserve it."
2. The Fray - You Found me
"You Found Me is a tough song for me. Its about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. Sometimes you're let down, sometimes you're the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on. This song came out of a tough time, and I'm still right in the thick of it. There's some difficult circumstances my family and friends have been going through over the past year or so and can be overwhelming. It wears on me. It demands so much of my faith to keep believing, keep hoping in the unseen. Sometimes the tunnel has a light at the end, but usually they just look black as night. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest."
- Isaac
3. +44 - Make you smile
"If I could, Id only wanna make you smile"

On another note, What is greater 80 or Infinity???
80 = our avg worldy lifespan
infinity = what we can share for eternity with Jesus if we put him first during the 80.....
A missionary priest from Honduras visited my church this week and this is how he began his very inspirational homily to our parish about truly giving all of our will and ourselves to God and wholeheartedly trusting in his provision. He elaborated on the point that Jesus is the door to salvation and it is our choice to enter. In Revelation that door is opened, i.e. Jesus is allowing his true followers to come into Heaven to share eternal glory with him......
Hope you enjoyed reading my blog.

11-18 Goodbye Boston

I am sitting in my hotel room on the way back from Boston and thinking of the great experience I had. It was not the place for me but It taught me a lot about the education system, nonprofits, people from different backgrounds and experiences and a lot about myself at the same time.
I have no regrets, but I am relieved to coming back South and to figure out the next chapter.

1. Secondhand Serenade - Goodbye
(sad but amazing song, may be a bit emo for some of you haha)

2. Ben Jelen - Wreckage

3. Anberlin - Breaking

4. Colbie Caillat - Older

5. Michelle Branch - Tuesday Morning

6. Coldplay - Swallowed in the sea
(Dedicated to Caleb R.)

Hope you Enjoy!

Worth and Development, an interesting analogy

A priest shared this piece of wisdom in Mass today and I wanted to share it with you:

A certain measured block of iron is worth $5.00

That same amount turned welded into a horseshoe is worth $50.00

The same amount used as medical needles is worth $500.00

And finally that same amount used as balances for swiss watches is worth $5000.00

Now I know this is totally random and you are wondering why I am sharing it, but it struck me, by drawing an analogy to our spiritual gifts and how we can utilize each and every one of them in our spiritual development, as we pursue God's will in our lives. While we are all given gifts that are manifested in our character and personality, it is not just what we are given by God, but what we do with what we are given, that determines who we truly are as spiritual beings.
While God values us all equally as his children, it is interesting to point out that we, through both our faith and action, (i.e. spiritual development) choose our path and our spiritual worth.

To Be Happy Now - Oct 21

I picked these pictures this week because they are three images that really stood out to me this week. The top picture is a one of the Boston Harbor at sunset, I drove over the Mass Ave bridge and marvelled at this amazing scene. The 2nd picture is a picture of my church, the Basilica of Our Lady Of Perpetual Hope, viewed from this local park. I go up here to think and listen to music and this image will always stick with me. The 3rd picture really struck me hard today as I travelled on the T from Back Bay to Jackson Square on the Orange Line. It spoke to me because it is something that many of us struggle with on a daily basis and I was so shocked to see this in the liberal and anti-Christian city that I am currently calling home.
Pictures to me do not just say a thousand words as the expression goes, but also they freeze time allowing me to go back and always remember all the amazing things I have done, places I have been and people with whom I have been. Pictures are gratitude, they are my memories, they are my inspiration.
I hope enjoy my random selection of songs this week:

1. Copeland - Grey man http://www.purevolume.com/copeland
Copeland's new album You Are My sunshine, is quite amazing. this song is great as well as a a song called To be Happy now, which is the source of inspiration for this post. I could not find that song anywhere but on Itunes however.

2. Ben Folds - Not the same
Go to the second option on this link. This one is somehwhat of a classic

3. Buddy Jewel -Sweet Southern Comfort

http://searchbeta.playlist.com/tracks#BUddy%20Jewel%20-%20Sweet%20southern%20comfort

Thanks Boris for this song. This makes me homesick I guess....

4. Coldplay -Lost http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfmfuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=2951183

Go to the 3rd option on the link. One of the most amazing songs of this decade. It will never get old for me.

5. Switchfoot - Meant to Live
You know this song is about you......

Wake me up when September Ends - September 29

I have been incredibly busy up here in Boston for the past couple weeks, so my love of music has had to be placed on the backburner temporarily :) I havent downloaded a ton of music in the past couple weeks but I have discovered a website called playlist.com which I have been using a ton. Anyone can go there and search any song or artist and just listen to the song there. Thus I think Im gonna start linking the songs there instead of myspace because there should be a wider selection for your pleasure.
This week I have assembled a very diverse playlist of songs that I have been listening to recently. Green day's song is very appropriate given the date of the year haha and its a song that I recently rediscovered from my collection. Sewn by the Feeling is an inspirational British pop song that really makes me happy. Alleluia is an amzingly inspirational ballad actually from the movie Shrek, which just doesnt make sense to me but oh well.Johnny and June is a new bluegrass/country song which I find very catchy and appealing and the last song is actually a clean Rap/Hip hop song which has a great melody.
Give me some feedback on these songs if you will :)

1. Green day - Wake me up when September ends

2. The Feeling - Sewn http://search.playlist.com/tracks/the%20feeling%20-%20sewn

September 13th - Im a slacker

Hey everyone, sorry that I wasnt able to post this week, I went camping this week with City Year and just got back last night. About 200 corps members, leaders and staff went to a camp about 3 hours outside of Boston and we did a lot of team building activities and workshops etc.
It was a good time but Im glad to be back.

I recently came across an outstanding band called Boyce Avenue. My friend, Kimberly, told me about them and I am hooked. They are extremely talented and they have both cd's which they have written and 3 cover cds. These cover cds have songs which range from U2 to Coldplay to Alicia keys to Usher to the Goo Goo dolls. Please listen to some of these cover songs which are on Itunes.

The band's Myspace page is www.myspace.com/boyceavenue

They have so much that Im gonna let you just focus on them this week.

Aug 19, Goodbye summer

Hey all, summer is coming to an end and Im sure most of you are either starting school back up or beginning a job or other activity. Im helping my oldest sister move into college this weekend and im very excited for her. It feels strange to know that I am done with school and will not be returning in the fall for the first time that I can remember. Im leaving in a week and a half and Im excited and hesitant at the same time to go to a new place, where I have never been, much less lived. I am gonna take my music collection with me obviously which will help ease the transition :)

I have some awesome music this week for you so please let me know what you think.

1A. Peter Bradley Adams - Always http://www.peterbradleyadams.com/

1B. Peter Bradley Adams - Unreconciled http://ilike.com/artist/Peter+Bradley+Adams

PBA is an amazing new artist who I was just recently told about by John G. I am completely obsessed with his music and am going to see him on Saturday in Charlotte. He has two cds, Gather up on which is Unreconciled and his latest album, Leavetaking on which is always and many other great songs.

2. Greg Laswell - Comes and Goes AND What a Day www.myspace.com/greglaswell

Greg Laswell has been on my blog before, a few months ago I was really into his EP, How the day sounds. He just released his first album called 3 Flights to Alto Nido which contains some awesome songs.

3. Five A.M - Be still AND Falls Apart www.myspace.com/fiveam

Five A.M. Is a fairly new rock band who I just recently discovered. These are my two favorite songs by them, both of which are on their myspace.

4. The Summer Obsession - Do you remember www.myspace.com/thesummerobsession

TSO has a very catchy anthem-like sound and they remind me of Summer coming to an end. Thus I thought they would be a fitting addition to this week's playlist. Check out Down for whatever and Corrosive as well if you can.

Hope you like these

July 29 - Breathing

Well hi....

Sorry I wasnt able to post last week, I was in NYC and didnt have internet and music available. I was in Naples and hung out with robert at his sweet apartment and then drove 12 hours home with my dad and sister.
We got back and i had one day off and then drove up to NY with my mom, 2 sisters and my brother. I went to NYC for several days to hang out with Boris, Caleb and Phil and that was quite fun. We did some touristy stuff, such as a boradway show and the Met museum and just hung out, sadly we stayed in the Sodom that is Chelsea and saw some unfortunate people but oh well.
So anyways I am glad to be back at home, relaxing, swimming, playing basketball and such.

Ok so whats new with Music in the world, haha

Shadows and Regrets

Hey there everyone, hope you are having a great week! I got back from vacation part 1 on friday and am relaxing at home in NC. I drove down to Greenville last night with my sister to go to the Greenville Catholic College group which was awesome. We discussed C.S. Lewis' book "The Great Divorce" and then we went downtown to Coffee Underground to get smoothies. I must say I already miss the weather in Greenville, it was such a perfect night outside. I am actually going back to Cofee Underground again tonight to attend a lecture by an awesome Priest about Relativism and I am very excited to go.

Anyways so on Friday as I drove through downtown Rutherfordton, A song came on one of my mix cd's called Shadows and regrets by Yellowcard. I had never listened to the lyrics very closely before, but it caught my attention as it began "im back in town, and everything has changed, I feel, feel letdown...." I sat there in the car with my dad and little sister remembering my home town and growing up there and spending High School with my two best friends, Emily and Lindsay. This song was a perfect reminder of how many awesome times we had together and how much I appreciated having them in my life during those years.
Friendships like these really shape the person you will become for the rest of your life, so cherish those who are close to you and understand that they may not always be there.
Emily and Lindsay, if you read this......Thanks for everything.

1. Yellowcard - Shadows and Regrets www.myspace.com/yellowcard
"I'm back, back in townand everything has changed I feel, feel let down. The faces stay the same I see, see shadows Of who we used to be And I drive, drive these roadsThrough this memory....
And we were only kids
And we were best of friends
And we hoped for the best
And let go from the rest
I heard, heard myself Say things I take back If I could, could retell And make these stories last I see, see shadows Of who you'll always be I drive, drive these roads Made of memories"

2. Metro Station - Kelsey and 17 forever http://www.myspace.com/metrostation
I found this new band on itunes, and I would classify them as techno pop. They have a really interesting and upbeat sound. Maybe a little immature sounding but catchy....

3. Brandon Heath - give me your eyes http://www.myspace.com/brandonheath

June 17 - Love remains the Same

Hey there, I hope everyone's summers are going well. I have really been deep in contemplation about what I should do after this summer. I am leaning toward going to Boston for 10 months to volunteer, which would be a great experience, but I would have to leave all I know behind......
10 months isnt that long but then again it is. I ask that you keep me in your prayers and that I can discern what God's plan is in my life for the next year or so. I havent obtained that much new music lately but I will share the bit that I have. I hope you enjoy it =)

Hey readers, my apologies on not having a blog up last week, I have had some more time to research some good music for your awesome musical tastes this week. Goodbye songs :(

Well hello there readers. I hope you are having a wonderful week and a nice beginning to the summer. I took my last final exam ever yesterday and its quite surreal. I am saying my goodbyes to the stage of my life that is college and saying hello to the first day of the rest of my life. Although I am very excited to start anew, there are a few elements of Furman, Greenville and the past four years which I will miss. The Furman Belltower, Falls Park, Paris Mountain, St. Mary's and St. Anthony's churches, the Furman Ampitheatre, and Clubhouse are just a few of the things that will be remembered. I hope I will go out into the world and make a difference, help others and find happiness in accordance with God's will.
So anyways, I hate goodbyes.....Especially to people who I care about a lot. Ioften would rather have a song express my feeling rather than having to say it myself, so I have provided some goodbye songsfor your enjoyment and use.
