Its Midnight and Im looking out my window at the first snow of this year. I am pretty excited to go sledding tomorrow because we have these amazing hills near my house which are absolutely perfect. The peace and quiet of the country is really nice especially on a night like tonight, the stars are extremely clear and its so quiet. Hmm why am I going on a "scenic rant" right now? who knows. Anyways, Im going to Naples this week to chill with R.B. and go to the beach for some needed contemplation. I'm pretty excited. Then after that I havent decided so Ill see what happens haha.
I have so much new music that I cant seem to listen to half of it. I am spewing off money on Itunes like you wouldnt believe, but Its worth it as long as I am getting the word out about unknown bands to people like you....right? I picked 5 this week and decided to elaborated a bit on each one. I dont often do this because I think everyone can listen to a song and find their own meaning, relation and interpretation so I dont like to create a bias I guess.
The top picture is self explanatory and I guess I just put it up because I have been playing quite a bit. The second is one of my porch covered in snow, and the bottom is one of the Furman Belltower from across the lake....very random I know.
Hope you are having a great week and get some time to listen to these:
This peaceful song talks about a tough relationship turned friendship and where they should go in the future. I love the line, "Ive had my head among the clouds, now that I'm coming down, will You be my solid ground?," because I find it to be really sincere. I think he is trying to tell this girl that he doesnt objectify her or have a shallow liking of her, but instead values her as a companion and a source of trust. This song is off the Perishers second cd, they are an amazing new alternative band from Sweden. Buy their cd, trust me.
2. Cary Brothers - The Glass Parade
I saw the Cary Brothers last summer when they opened for the Fray. I didnt like them at the time but that is only because I didnt give them a chance. This song, The Glass Parade, although somewhat depressing is incredibly inspirational to me. "This is a glass parade, A fragile state and I am trying not to break. And the stars are shining, the moon is rising and I would kill to be with You tonight," symbolizes his attempts to remain strong and hold his chin up, although he is undoubtably shattered.
It starts off kinda slow and mellow, but it picks up a bit and really tells a story, so please give it a chance.
This song is clearly way more upbeat haha. This is such a feel-good hang out song, so I thought it would balance well with the other two more serious and deep ones above....I think the theme of this song is freedom and being spontaneous, and although It talks about of behavior that is not agreeable to me, I think it is a fun and catchy jam.
Leslie Roy, is a new and upcoming artist from Ireland. I havent heard much of her stuff but this song is actually on the radio right now and although its not what I typically listen to, I really enjoy it. It seems to be really heartfelt and passionate, as she talks about wanting to be loved and feel beautiful...I think this is something that many girls struggle with, and unfortunately in our society, allow this insecurity to manifest itself in random hookups and self disrespect....
The remedy to this is truly God's love and although it is not easy to realize, especially with our twisted society and its pressures, it is the only thing that will truly quench this thirst for contentment and self worth.
Thanks to M.T. for this song. It is very optimistic and really reminds me of the beauty of nature and how we fit in to our complex world....Umm yeah I dont know if that has anything at all to do with the lyrics haha but thats just how it hits me, dunno why, "Larger than Lifesize we become."
Hope you enjoy these songs and my brief thoughts on these songs.
God Bless
Nick
